| ABOUT CATALOGUE |
THE CONCEPT CATALOGUE is a music event of improvised music on analog synths that will be part of the next edition of Pop Montreal festival 2009 happening this fall. CATALOGUE offers an immersive sound environment where musicians can meet and jam together. Sounds geeky? It totally is! Local bands are invited to participate and host the event. It's not a traditionnal music performance as the musicians will be displaced all around the venue (there's no stage). Also, all musicians who are invited to play a show @ Pop Montreal can participate in the project and be part of the jam sessions. It's basically some kind of heaven for nerds who like to play with old machines in unison! |

THE SOUND STATIONS |
THE IMPROV Each sound station is available for any host musicians to use. Guest musicians can also use any vacant station at their will. Also, any participating musician can decide to stop playing or switch sound stations whenever they want (as long as they write down where they are playing and when in what we call the "catalogue" - see description below) It is important that there is always more than one musician playing at time as CATALOGUE is a non-stop music event. |
THE MUSIC PROGRAMMING To make sure that there is a variety in the music, each band or musician that will be part of CATALOGUE has to provide 2 rythmic loops that will be used as the basis of the improvisations. This way, not only will the tempo change constantly during the night but also the music style... We all think it's a good thing. |
THE GUEST MUSICIANS Any musicians from any Pop Montreal band can join in the improvisations whenever they feel like it. That way, anything is possible. They'll have, of course, to sign in and out in the "catalogue" first. And, they'll have to be respectful of the other musicians' gear of course. Respectful geeks only please. |
THE CATALOGUE The “catalogue” is in fact a guest book in which each participating musician has to write on which station they are playing and when - this way, we know exactly who played what and when. It'll be the way of knowing how many people participated so that they can be credited once the recordings of the jam sessions are broadcast. |
THE RECORDING As in any improvised music night, there will be some highlights. This is why the whole music performance will be recorded and the best moments will be available for download on this very website. The use of the catalogue will be the best way to know exactly who played when - so every musician will be credited for each music excerpt. Each musician / band that'll be part of CATALOGUE will have to give us the permission to broadcast the best parts of the improvisations online. |
